Born: May 13, 1950 in Saginaw, MI
Genre: R&B/Soul
Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Stevie Wonder is a much-beloved American icon and an indisputable genius not only of R&B but popular music in general. Blind virtually since birth, Wonder's heightened awareness of sound helped him create vibrant, colorful music teeming with life and ambition. Nearly everything he recorded bore the stamp of his sunny, joyous positivity; even when he addressed serious racial, social, and spiritual issues (which he did quite often in his prime), or sang about heartbreak and romantic uncertainty,…

The Very Best!! (5 stars)
This is by far, the very BEST Beatles album ever made. Sgt. Pepper is a closed second. Thanks for finally bringing The Beatles to iTunes!! ~Colby

Changed my LIFE (5 stars)
This was the first Beatles record that I ever heard and, like so many of my generation, I found it by going through my parent's record collection. I had grown up (to about the age of five at the time, lol) listening to jazz, soundtracks, and classical and this was my first introduction to rock music that incorporated all of those elements. As stunning a masterpiece today as it was then!

Biography

Formed: 1957 in Liverpool, England
Genre: Rock
Years Active: '60s, '70s

So much has been said and written about the Beatles — and their story is so mythic in its sweep — that it's difficult to summarize their career without restating clichés that have already been digested by tens of millions of rock fans. To start with the obvious, they were the greatest and most influential act of the rock era, and introduced more innovations into popular music than any other rock band of the 20th century. Moreover, they were among the few artists of any discipline that…

Van Morrison Is The Best (5 stars)
I have always been inspirationalized (It think I just made up that word) by Van Morrison. For a long time I have listened to his stuff, and I saw that there were no reviews.

buy the V. Morrison "Bang Masters" on itunes instead (5 stars)
This record (is amazing for starters, but ) is a re-issue of a re-sissue of songs. This identical collection of songs plus a few others are all available on the "Bang Masters" album. There are some great original liner notes to the Bang Masters album by Bill Flanagan, if you can find them. The price of the records (on itunes at least) is the same too. All of that aside this is an unbelievably great set of early V.M. recordings. T.B

Born: August 31, 1945 in Belfast, Northern Ireland
Genre: Rock
Years Active: '50s, '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Equal parts blue-eyed soul shouter and wild-eyed poet-sorcerer, Van Morrison is among popular music's true innovators, a restless seeker whose incantatory vocals and alchemical fusion of R&B, jazz, blues, and Celtic folk produced perhaps the most spiritually transcendent body of work in the rock & roll canon. Subject only to the whims of his own muse, his recordings cover extraordinary stylistic ground yet retain a consistency and purity virtually unmatched among his contemporaries, connected…

Our Review

Dismissed almost immediately on release as a failed attempt to match Sgt. Peppers, for those with open ears and open minds, this has always been a terrific, if anomalously blues-free album, full of surprising turns and rewarding experiments in sound and imagery — as trippily luring as the lenticular 3D cover that graced the original LP. The sinister title is realized in the dark garage-rock psychedelia of “Citadel,” “The Lantern,” and especially the bleak space stranding of “2000 Light Years from Home,” balanced by the unexpected utopian prologue of opener “Sing This All Together” (the chant and percussion core perhaps reflecting Brian Jones' stays in Morocco) and the gorgeous baroque-pop of “She's a Rainbow” (centered on Nicky Hopkins' piano). Even Bill Wyman's debut as a writer and singer on “In Another Land,” drenched in opium-esque haze, fits the mood perfectly. Heck, even the indulgent jam “Sing This All Together (See What Happens)” is a legitimate period piece.

Unjustly Underrated (4 stars)
The Stones' 1967 psychedlic effort is truly an original masterpiece. At times it can get to be a little unbearable ("Sing This All Together (See What Happens)" (long version), "Gomper"), but most is very interesting. From the piano-laden "She's a Rainbow" to the space-rock od "2000 Light Years From Home," this album surely deserves a spot in the library of even casual Stones fans.

Great Album… open your minds (5 stars)
I am not a Stones fan by any means… however this album is played constantly at home. The melodies are top notch and never get old. Certainly the band took huge chances in the studio with an album like this, and it pays off. Lastly, comparing this to Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band is way off the mark… this album has gritty hooks and none of the trivial pop that makes up SPLHCB… take a chance, open your minds and buy this album.

SMR (4 stars)
its not a bad album, its just a dfferent genre of the stones that not to many people have heard.
if i remeber correctly this was supposed to be a shot at the beatles sgt pepper.
many people will tell you this is an aweful album, but i beg to differ.
She's a Rainbow is a fantastic song
so is 2000 light years for home, sing this all together is also pretty good
its more in the experimental side of the music, i like that "crap" as do

Biography

Formed: April, 1962 in London, England
Genre: Rock
Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

By the time the Rolling Stones began calling themselves the World's Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the late '60s, they had already staked out an impressive claim on the title. As the self-consciously dangerous alternative to the bouncy Merseybeat of the Beatles in the British Invasion, the Stones had pioneered the gritty, hard-driving blues-based rock & roll that came to define hard rock. With his preening machismo and latent maliciousness, Mick Jagger became the prototypical rock frontman,…
