So much has been said and written about the Beatles — and their story is so mythic in its sweep — that it's difficult to summarize their career without restating clichés that have already been digested by tens of millions of rock fans. To start with the obvious, they were the greatest and most influential act of the rock era, and introduced more innovations into popular music than any other rock band of the 20th century. Moreover, they were among the few artists of any discipline that…

Best band ever! (5 stars)
Finally, it's on iTunes!!!

Piggies, Weeping Guitars and Warm Guns – Brilliant Fairy Tales for Our Times (5 stars)
"The White Album" is a collection of fractured fairy tales. You've got dancing Piggies, troubled Blackbirds, the villainous Sexy Sadie, the tragic Rocky Racoon, the melancholy Prudence and Martha, Desmond and Molly, kings and queens, weeping guitars, warm guns and the continuing adventures of Bungalow Bill. It's all a twisted commentary on (and celebration of) the warping of Western culture by sex, power, religion, money, war, secr

It's good to see the boys in here finally 🙂 (5 stars)
Anyone who knows the Beatles knows this album. No review necessary except for saying thanks for getting it on here 🙂

Our Review

One of the finest recordings of the rock era, Astral Weeks remains a singular achievement, blending elements of jazz, folk and blues into a literate eight-song cycle that traces the arc of life from spiritual rebirth to death. Nothing else sounds quite like it. From the opening pulsing notes of the title track, Morrison is in the zone, twisting notes, repeating phrases, finding his inner rhythm amongst the mostly improvised backing of jazz veterans: stand-up bassist Richard Davis, guitarist Jay Berliner and drummer Connie Kay. Romance lingers in the air with the twenty-something Morrison at the peak of his interpretive powers, his voice never sharper. “Beside You” and “Sweet Thing” capture the euphoria of youth and the discovery of physical and spiritual love, while “Cyprus Avenue” confronts the prospect of aging. The Sinatra jazz of “The Way Young Lovers Do” offers a brief ebullient respite from the emerging fates, however, the nine-plus minutes of “Madame George” find a world turning colder. The vague narrative adds a twist of intrigue, but it’s the little spots — Morrison singing “Rainbow ribbons in her hair” or “On that train from Dublin up to Sandy Row” — that make this 1968 release a timeless classic.

A Masterpiece (5 stars)
I learned about Astral Weeks from Rolling Stone magazine. In the 1980s, they had a list of the best 100 albums. Sgt Pepper was at one or two, Joni Mitchell's Blue was up there, but what was Astral Weeks? It was at the 7 spot. Never heard of it. Rather than sing its praises, I suggest you look it up at Rolling Stone or Google. Ever since I signed up with iTunes, this has been the album which frustrated me by its absence. Good to have it i

Now your talking! This is the greatest Morrison LP of ALLTIME!! or maybe even the greatest LP of all time!! Every tune is a classic. A 6 star lp.

The beautiful secret (5 stars)
I strive to educate the masses on this album, yet find myself explaining why the man is so much more than "brown-eyed girl". I would love to keep this album to myself and those few who appreciate it, but can't stand it when people don't know about it. It is such a textured and ecclectic album. The album sounds different to me everytime I sit down and listen. His voice, coupled with the music sound like nothing else. He has a r

By the time the Rolling Stones began calling themselves the World's Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the late '60s, they had already staked out an impressive claim on the title. As the self-consciously dangerous alternative to the bouncy Merseybeat of the Beatles in the British Invasion, the Stones had pioneered the gritty, hard-driving blues-based rock & roll that came to define hard rock. Our Review

The Stones awoke with a start from their psychedelic dream, both musically and spiritually. Beggars Banquet is the sound of that start, a decisive move toward their roots that would color the next five or so gloriously creative years. The record is best known, of course, for the brazen statements “Sympathy for the Devil” and “Street Fighting Man,” but its skepticism and humor pervade nearly every cut. “No Expectations” is more proof of Jagger and Richards' ability to deliver heartrending ballads, while a cover of the Rev. Robert Wilkins' “Prodigal Son” shows how commandingly they'd mastered pre-electric blues. Even at its lightest, this is tough, smart music that remains endlessly listenable and challenging. Those wondering how they got to be called the greatest could begin learning the lesson here.

Beggars Banquet a delicious board of fare (5 stars)
Fed-up with their attempts to pace every trend set by The Beatles, Beggars Banquet was a return by the Rolling Stones to do what they have always done best-blues influenced rock 'n roll. Brian Jones was primarily responsible for steering the band back to it's Delta blues roots, after the abortive attempt on "Their Satanic Majesty's Request" to match The Beatles psychedelia of "Sgt. Peppers" and "Magical Mystery Tour.

Let's Drink To The Salt Of The Earth (5 stars)
This was the last album completed by the original line up and started a string of releases unmatched by any other artist. "Sympathy for the Devil" is lyrical perfection, "Street Fighting Man" is a classic rock song, with no electric guitars. "No Expectations" is a beautiful ballad with Brian Jones on slide guitar. On this album the group went back to their roots and if you want to know why the Stones are cons
