By the time the Rolling Stones began calling themselves the World's Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the late '60s, they had already staked out an impressive claim on the title. As the self-consciously dangerous alternative to the bouncy Merseybeat of the Beatles in the British Invasion, the Stones had pioneered the gritty, hard-driving blues-based rock & roll that came to define hard rock. With his preening machismo and latent maliciousness, Mick Jagger became the prototypical rock frontman,…

Our Review

When the Stones began recording Sticky Fingers on their 1969 American tour, with Muscle Shoals sessions that took in “Brown Sugar,” “Wild Horses” and “You Gotta Move.” Altamont hadn't happened yet. When the finished album appeared in spring 1971, it was the work of a wiser, yet finally unapologetic, band. (Did that cover look like an “I'm sorry”?) It's a lusty party album that was nonetheless steeped in fever dreams. “Brown Sugar” found Jagger and Richards pushing boundaries of racial complexity by imagining the sexual escapades of slaves and masters, while “Sister Morphine” was a nightmare about addiction. But there's also dread here (“Sway,” whose lyrics are buried within one of the Stones' most battering performances), as well as redemption (the lyrical closer “Moonlight Mile”). Brian Jones' replacement Mick Taylor is a major force here, lending new sonic shadings to the clamor. Fundamentally different in tone than Beggars Banquet and Let It Bleed, it was equally unique.

THE 1 Stones album you MUST HAVE! (5 stars)
I remember the day this this album came out.It had a working zipper and I overheard a few people say that they were buying it for the novelty of it. I'll bet they were REALLY suprised when they played it for the first time!
I'll tell you what; there aren't any bad songs here. I love the way that the Stones use a horn section on this CD.
The Rolling Stones are a truly GREAT blues band when they want to be and this CD showcases just

One of My Fav Albums (5 stars)
This Album really got me into the Rolling Stones. The whole album is fantastic, just buy it all. Stand-out's to me art Moonlight Mile, Dead Flowers,Wild Horses (of course) and Can't you hear me Knocking. Buy it all. You won't be dissappointed.

Better than the taste of "Brown Sugar"!!! (5 stars)
This is probably one of the best records of all time, definatly in the top 3 stones albums. There are so many great songs here.

Brown sugar is my favorite tune here. Its AWESOME, it makes you wanna dance. The opening riff is one of the finest of the stones. The chorus is one of the best parts. I love the sax solo near the middle!

Sway is a good song, the vocals are pretty good and the music is good too. Not a bad song, but

The Who

Biography

Few bands in the history of rock & roll were riddled with as many contradictions as the Who. All four members had wildly different personalities, as their notoriously intense live performances demonstrated. The group was a whirlwind of activity, as the wild Keith Moon fell over his drum kit and Pete Townshend leaped into the air with his guitar, spinning his right hand in exaggerated windmills. Vocalist Roger Daltrey strutted across the stage with a thuggish menace, as bassist John Entwistle stood silent, functioning as the eye of the hurricane. These divergent personalities frequently clashed, but these frictions also resulted in a decade's worth of remarkable music — it took some five years to find their audience, but at the tail end of the 1960s they suddenly achieved a level of popularity rivaling the Rolling Stones, both as a live act and in album sales.

Are You Kidding Me???? (5 stars)
I will have to differ AND agree with the iTunes review; Though they get it right in dissecting the strength of Arethas confidence, voice and band during this chapter of her career, I will cover the extra yardage iTunes fell short of, and proclaim this Aretha Franklins best album…. Ever, ever, ever.

In the creation of music albums, every once in awhile a collection of songs fits together so seamlessly they move as one continuous boulev

Young, Gifted and Black (5 stars)
Totally agree. This definitely is one of, if not the best Aretha Franklin album.Which automatically makes it one of the greatest albums period. Besides "Rock Steady", I think "All the King's Horses", "Border Song" and "Day Dreaming" stand out. But as was said, not a single throwaway on the whole album. A MASTERPIECE!!

Aretha Franklin is one of the giants of soul music, and indeed of American pop as a whole. More than any other performer, she epitomized soul at its most gospel-charged. Her astonishing run of late-'60s hits with Atlantic Records — “Respect,” “I Never Loved a Man,” “Chain of Fools,” “Baby I Love You,” “I Say a Little Prayer,” “Think,” “The House That Jack Built,” and several others — earned her the title “Lady Soul,” which she has worn uncontested ever since. Yet as much of an international…

brilliant and very overlooked (5 stars)
This is really the first of a string of masterpieces by Stevie. "Think Of Me As Your Soldier" is up there with the best of any love song ever written. "Take Up A Course In Happiness" is so vibrant, you can't help but smile. I wish Motown would remaster this title and unearth some unreleased Stevie from this time period. There's got to be stuff, somewhere.

This CD is wonderful to add to your collection, since my collection of Stevie songs is about 148+ already.. You won't be disappointed

Stevie Wonder is a much-beloved American icon and an indisputable genius not only of R&B but popular music in general. Blind virtually since birth, Wonder's heightened awareness of sound helped him create vibrant, colorful music teeming with life and ambition. Nearly everything he recorded bore the stamp of his sunny, joyous positivity; even when he addressed serious racial, social, and spiritual issues (which he did quite often in his prime), or sang about heartbreak and romantic uncertainty,…

The First and The Best Unknown Doobies Album (5 stars)
Growing up in thew 70's the Doobie Brothers was on the turn table all the time. I bet you were like me and thought Toulouse Street was thier first album. I was going through a pile of old albums at a garage sale sometime in the mid 80's and came across this album, it was unplayed and still in the shrink wrap. I bought it for a quarter. By this time the band had changed quite a bit Tom Johnston was gone and Michael McDonald was lead vocals an

Great Doobies Music is Not Lost! (5 stars)
I thought this was lost forever, it's been out of print for so long. I still have the LP I bought 35 years ago, and it may be my favorite Doobie Bros record!

If you like the Doobs, trust me, you will like this album. The great Doobie sound is all there. You can play the whole thing, too – all the songs are good.

According to the back cover of my LP, the Doobies consisted of:

A must have for the complete Doobie Bros. collection (4 stars)
I bought this as a double album in '84 (or so). As a certified Doobies fan, it represented the end of the "classic" Doobs. Sure they've come back a few times since, but this "album" really captures the sound of the Farewell Tour, and the sound of the Doobies Live. Sure it's got some flaws, but it's positives vastly outweigh the few negatives. The highlights: it was nice that they added Echoes of Love to their Farewell set

I have to admit that I am not a McDonald fan, but this farewell album featured the return of Tom Johnston and he sings 2 of his origninals on this farewell. That, alone, made this a must have for me. It was recorded in Berkeley in 1982 and is a great live album. If you like Michael McDonald, you should download it. If you're a Pat Simmons and Tom Johnston fan, you have to download it just to have the last album released by the original b

When people use the term “singer/songwriter” (often modified by the word “sensitive”) in praise or in criticism, they're thinking of James Taylor. In the early '70s, when he appeared with his introspective songs, acoustic guitar, and calm, understated singing style, he mirrored a generation's emotional exhaustion after tumultuous times. Just as Bing Crosby's reassuring voice brought the country out of the Depression and through World War II, Taylor's eased the transition from '60s activism and its…
