Biography

Led Zeppelin was the definitive heavy metal band. It wasn't just their crushingly loud interpretation of the blues — it was how they incorporated mythology, mysticism, and a variety of other genres (most notably world music and British folk) — into their sound. Led Zeppelin had mystique. They rarely gave interviews, since the music press detested the band. Consequently, the only connection the audience had with the band was through the records and the concerts. More than any other band,…

Our Review

Led Zeppelin were never a group of settlers. Their previous album, IV virtually defined the hard rock genre with its era-defining guitar riffs and bombastic destiny. It remains among rock’s essential albums. The follow-up never tries to emulate that achievement. Instead, Houses of the Holy approaches things from a diverse, genre-busting side. “The Song Remains the Same” opens things at their leisure, opting for a dense guitar-heavy maelstrom that soon gives way to the meditative seven-and-a-half minutes of “The Rain Song.” Guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist-keyboardist John Paul Jones work in lockstep, weaving mystical passages (the shivering mellotron-heavy “No Quarter”), dynamic acoustic/electric rock (“Over the Hills and Far Away”), reggae (“D’Yer Maker”) and both pseudo-funk (the James Brown homage “The Crunge”) and their own legitimate brand of groove rock (“The Ocean,” “Dancing Days”) always with a sense of musical space that allowed each instrument to shine individually and work within the context of the group. Led Zeppelin mastered each genre they attempted. They never shied from a new idea. And they often succeeded brilliantly with each risk.

This… (5 stars)
This is the pinnacle of music. This is the reason I own an iPod, and that I own iTunes. This… is art.

GREAT (5 stars)
It finally happend, they put one of the 3 bands left to be placed on iTunes. Now they need The Beatles and Ac/Dc and theyll have everything worth buying off iTunes

Good Price (5 stars)
Obviously, the album is amazing, as is anything by Zep,

but for only 8 bucks, i'd recommend it to anyone that doesn't have it already (Shame on You, by the way!)

Highlights of this album include

The song remains the same
the rain song
over the hills and far away
the crunge
dancing days
d'yer mak'er
no quarter
the ocean.

(:P if you didn't notice, thats the whole album)

Biography

Formed: 1964 in London, England
Genre: Rock
Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s

Few bands in the history of rock & roll were riddled with as many contradictions as the Who. All four members had wildly different personalities, as their notoriously intense live performances demonstrated. The group was a whirlwind of activity, as the wild Keith Moon fell over his drum kit and Pete Townshend leaped into the air with his guitar, spinning his right hand in exaggerated windmills. Vocalist Roger Daltrey strutted across the stage with a thuggish menace, as bassist John Entwistle…

First Review! (5 stars)
Finally Floyd is on iTunes. Is there much difference between this "remastered" version and any recent copy you could have purchased in the stores a week ago? I don't think so. Sounds just about the same: awesome.

A Classic Masterpiece (5 stars)
One of the best albums of all time. Simply amazing. A must have!

Legendary (5 stars)
This is one of those albums that changes your life. I'm glad iTunes finally has it, however I am not too sure about any difference between the copy I have and the "remastered"

Biography

Formed: 1965 in London, England
Genre: Rock
Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s

Pink Floyd is the premier space rock band. Since the mid-'60s, their music relentlessly tinkered with electronics and all manner of special effects to push pop formats to their outer limits. At the same time they wrestled with lyrical themes and concepts of such massive scale that their music has taken on almost classical, operatic quality in both sound and words. Despite their astral image, the group was brought down to earth in the '80s by decidedly mundane power struggles over leadership and,…

Most Pleasantly Surprised (4 stars)
Was most pleasantly surprised to see iTunes finally list this somewhat unusual one from Donovan. I had inquired about this album a couple of years ago. Maybe they do read requests and attempt to oblige their faithful customers? It's a nice thought. However I found their 'Album Review' a bit harsh in it's scope. Anyone buying this album should heed advance warning – This is NOT your typical Donovan album. You'll find nothing mellow yellow her

My favorite Donovan album! (4 stars)
Very different from everything else he did from the hard edged sound this album has…Brilliant and fun.

Ignore the official review – this is a great album (5 stars)
The production values on this album are uniformly very high. And if the review had been listening, he would have noticed that all of the songs are based around Donovan's voice and acoustic guitar, then layered with a proper backing band. It rocks in places and the arrangements are consistently interesting.

Biography

Born: May 10, 1946 in Glasgow, Scotland
Genre: Rock
Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Upon his emergence during the mid-'60s, Donovan was anointed “Britain's answer to Bob Dylan,” a facile but largely unfounded comparison which compromised the Scottish folk-pop troubadour's own unique vision. Where the thrust of Dylan's music remains its bleak introspection and bitter realism, Donovan fully embraced the wide-eyed optimism of the flower power movement, his ethereal, ornate songs radiating a mystical beauty and childlike wonder; for better or worse, his recordings remain quintessential…

Our Review

The Doobies’ third album was fuller-bodied and more energetic than the works that came before it. With the auxiliary support of Steely Dan’s guitarist Jeff Baxter and Little Feat’s keyboardist Bill Payne, The Captain and Me is the product of a highly accomplished and animated musical ensemble. The heavy songs got heavier (“Evil Woman,” “Without You”), the groovy songs got groovier (“Long Train Runnin’”), and gentle songs got gentler (“South City Midnight”). The Doobies’ specialty was combining several different threads of music — hard rock, folk, funk and jazz — but even more impressive was their ability to make pop singles out of such complex mixtures. Amazingly, the catchiest songs on The Captain and Me are the ones that have the most ingredients. “Natural Thing,” “China Grove” and “The Captain and Me” feature cyclical, enthralling rhythms and complex instrumental parts, but they also work as snappy radio singalongs. Such is the creative genius of the Doobies — they delivered to the listener a musical education in the guise of a Top 40 thrill.

Biography

Formed: March, 1970 in San Jose, CA
Genre: Rock
Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

As one of the most popular California pop/rock bands of the '70s, the Doobie Brothers evolved from a mellow, post-hippie boogie band to a slick, soul-inflected pop band by the end of the decade. Along the way, the group racked up a string of gold and platinum albums in the U.S., along…
