i had expected there to be more than two reviews when i decided to write my own… anyway… this is amazing. i absolutely love the live versions of ramblin' man, jessica, it's not my cross to bear, adn my favorite, in memory of elizabeth reed. an excelent album for any 60s/70s rock fan looking to add to their collection. i highly recommend this.

Allman Brothers are amazing again (5 stars)
Excellent cd including Wasted Words, Jessica, and Southbound. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed is one of the best instrumentals around in southern rock. I wish Dickey came back for a third time.

Unbelievable (5 stars)
For a band reeling from the deaths of two key members, the Allman Brothers Band blows down the walls in these live recordings. While it's true that some of their Duane-era songs suffer by comparison, Dickey comes into his own on Southbound (he and Levell are so hooked up it's hard to breathe during their linked solos) and Can't Lose What You Never Had, and Gregg is in top form on It's Not My Cross to Bear and Come and Go Blues. Though CCR was very much a group in their tight, punchy arrangements, their vision was very much singer, songwriter, guitarist, and leader John Fogerty's. Our Review

Creedence Clearwater Revival emerged in the late 1960s as a lean, mean, hit-single scoring machine. While their individual albums feature great diversity and provide wonderful snapshots of moments in time — 1969’s Green River and 1970’s Cosmo’s Factory, in particular — this 20-track collection sums up their career with an almost unimaginable amount of success. “Proud Mary,” “Bad Moon Rising,” “Lodi,” “Down on the Corner,” “Fortunate Son,” “Travelin’ Band”…the list is long and impressive, and unrelenting in its single-minded quest to deliver the truth in somewhere around three and a half-minutes. The consistency almost doesn’t seem possible. Yet, it exists. The extended 11-minute jam on Marvin Gaye’s “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” was a slight nod to the San Francisco scene that CCR came from but were never comfortably a part of. Singer John Fogerty felt more at home, imagining the Louisiana Bayou and the “swamp rock” that his ominous guitar tone suggested, which is pitched to perfection among the dark clouds of “Run Through the Jungle” and “Who’ll Stop the Rain.”

w00t!! (5 stars)
I wrote a review for the Chronicles album for CCR and said that they set the standards for all great bands along with the Beatles. Well, I'm standing by what I said. CCR rocks! The only clear problem with this album, along with Chronicles, is that it's missing Born on a Bayou. Otherwise, great stuff! Rock on CCR! ROCK ON!!

There's never a bad time for CCR…. (5 stars)
That's it. That's all there is to it. Every time one of their songs comes on the radio you say "Hell yeah" and turn it up. I honestly don't know anyone who doesn't. That's a testament to great song writing and musicianship. This is my dad's music. This is my music. This will be music that my kids will hear on the radio and say "CCR, hell yeah!" Turn it up kids, dad doesn't mind.

Best collection of Creedence (5 stars)
Not only are the songs from their best selections, the price cannot be beat. For $10, you basically double what you'd normally get from an iTunes CD. One song after another exemplifies the great works of Creedence, including my all time favorites, (which were written and sung to protest the Vietnam War, by the way), including, Have You Ever Seen The rain?, Green River, Run Through The Jungle, and the best ever, Fortunate Son. They are all

Most rock & roll bands are a tightly wound unit that developed their music through years of playing in garages and clubs around their hometown. Steely Dan never subscribed to that aesthetic. As the vehicle for the songwriting of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, Steely Dan defied all rock & roll conventions. Becker and Fagen never truly enjoyed rock — with their ironic humor and cryptic lyrics, their eclectic body of work shows some debt to Bob Dylan — preferring jazz, traditional…

A new level … (4 stars)
Tommy Shaw's arrival is unmistakable and elevates the band, although Equinox was a very strong effort. Shaw writes Styx's most enduring music, still good 30 years later, and the tune Crystal Ball's soaring vocals and unfolding sound from soft to hard is unmatched in the Styx catalog. Not a weak cut. First four are excellent, Shooz rocks hard and then a soft but strong pair of offerings from Dennis DeYoung. Styx's second best album behind Gra

Enter – Tommy Shaw (4 stars)
You've got to remember, this album is when Tommy Shaw first joined the group – extreme talent! He raised the band up to another level. The rest of the band was so impressed with Tommy's writing skills that they named the album after his song – "Crystal Ball". Not real big on the charts, but one of my favorites!

Almost a home run. (4 stars)
Not as good as Equinox, but better than Pieces of Eight. Again, Styx were far better when they were starving. After they hit it big, they lost the muse.

Biography

Formed: 1970 in Chicago, IL
Genre: Rock
Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Although they began as an artsy prog rock band, Styx would eventually transform into the virtual arena rock prototype by the late '70s and early '80s, due to a fondness for bombastic rockers and soaring power ballads. The seeds for the band were planted in another Chicago band during the late '60s, the Tradewinds, which featured brothers Chuck and John Panozzo (who played bass and drums, respectively), as well as acquaintance Dennis DeYoung (vocals, keyboards). By the dawn of the '70s, the group…

Double Album (5 stars)
When Blue Moves came out in 1976 it was a double album with all these 18 songs. But when it came out years later on CD it was missing 4 songs, Cage The Songbird, Shoulder Holster, The Wide Eyed And Laughing and Where's The Shoorah? So these 4 songs have not been heard in years, and they are good tunes. Also the CD blue Moves has been out of print for about 15 years so good job ITUNES for bringing this complete album back!

Blue Moves-Elton John (5 stars)
Blue Moves marks the transition Elton John made from his explosive rise to some of the standard and average albums he has produced year after year through the last three decades.

This is the last album where Elton could do anything he wanted to with his voice and yet it's also the album where his musical knowledge was at its best. It's a deeply heartfelt album with no saccharine. The most popular is "Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word&

Overlooked (4 stars)
In a list of Elton's greatest albums Blue Moves wouldn't be at the top but that doesnt mean that this isnt a great album, because it is. Everyone knows "Sorry Seems to be…" and most people will know the slightly more obscure "Tonight". Being that this is a double album, it is often compared to elton's other double album (Goodbye Yellowbrick Road). But really, the two can't be compared. Everyone would agree that "Ye

In terms of sales and lasting popularity, Elton John was the biggest pop superstar of the early '70s. Initially marketed as a singer/songwriter, John soon revealed he could craft Beatlesque pop and pound out rockers with equal aplomb. He could dip into soul, disco, and country, as well as classic pop balladry and even progressive rock. His versatility, combined with his effortless melodic skills, dynamic charisma, and flamboyant stage shows, made him the most popular recording artist of the '70s….
